Sauté yellow onion and olive oil in a Dutch oven for 4 minutes, then add in the garlic and sauté for 1 more minute.
Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up as it browns. Continue cooking until cooked through, about 6 minutes.
Add the pasta, marinara, chicken broth and Italian seasonings and stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a low boil and cook until pasta is al dente, about 20 minutes.
Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the mozzarella, parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes.
Serve immediately with extra parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
