Notes

Storage: Always store your homemade ranch dressing mix in an airtight container. If you used buttermilk powder, store the container in the fridge, where it will last for 2 months. If you didn’t use buttermilk powder, you can store the seasoning in a cupboard or spice rack, away from direct sunlight, for up to a year.
Buttermilk Powder: This is an optional ingredient that will make your ranch taste more like the stuff you buy at the store. You do not have to use it, unless you want an exact copycat of the store bought version.
Use freshly-dried herbs. While dried herbs don’t technically go bad, they do become stale and lose some of their flavor and become more mild. Make sure to use herbs that have been purchased recently and not ones that have been sitting at the bottom of your spice rack collecting dust.
Grind the seasoning. I usually leave my ranch seasoning nice and coarse, like in the pictures. If you want to make it like the ranch packets at the store, or you want your ranch dressing to be super smooth, then you’ll need to grind the seasoning into a finer powder. You can do this in a spice grinder or with a mortar and pestle
Shake before using. Sometimes the herbs and spices in this homemade ranch seasoning can separate over time because some of the ingredients are heavier than others. So make sure to give the mason jar another good shake every time you’re going to use the seasoning.
