Why You’ll Love These Air Fryer Steak Bites
In case you’re not quite convinced yet, I’ve got a few more pitches to make on behalf of these tender steak bites:
- Perfectly Juicy: These air fryer steak bites are just as juicy and flavorful as a pan-seared steak, but they require a lot less effort on the part of the cook!
- Easy Clean-Up: You can prep both the potatoes and the steak in the same bowl, so all you really need to wash at the end of the night is the bowl and the air fryer basket!
- Simple Ingredients: There are just 3 main ingredients to this recipe, and the rest are seasonings that you probably already have in your pantry. Gotta love a budget friendly dinner recipe!
- Flexible: I like to keep it simple with salt, black pepper, and steak seasoning because it’s a tried and true combination. That said, feel free to customize this recipe to your liking with garlic powder or some of your other favorite spices and seasonings!
What You’ll Need
Simple as they are, let’s go over the key ingredients for this steak bites recipe before we get started! Note that you can find the exact amounts for each one at the bottom of this post, in the recipe card.
- Potatoes: I recommend using Yukon Gold or another kind of yellow potato. Small red potatoes would also work well.
- Olive Oil: This will help the seasoning stick to the pieces of steak and the potatoes while they cook, while also keeping them from drying out. Avocado oil also works well.
- Onion: I like to use a sweet onion, but you can use a white or yellow onion if you prefer.
- Steak: Use the cut of your choice (something like Ribeye, Sirloin, New York, etc.).
- Seasoning: I keep it simple with salt, black pepper, and our favorite steak seasoning.
How to Make Steak Bites in the Air Fryer
Dinner prep doesn’t get much easier than these air fryer steak bites. As long as your chopping skills are alright, you should be set! Here’s the step-by-step breakdown:
- Preheat the Air Fryer to 400°F. Then, in a medium size bowl, mix potatoes, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Stir everything until the potatoes are evenly covered.
- Cook the Potatoes. Add your potatoes to the air fryer basket and cook them for 8-10 minutes.
- Prep the Steak Bites. While the potatoes are cooking, add beef, onions, olive oil, and steak seasoning to the same bowl (no need for a new one!). Stir until the steak is evenly covered.
- Cook the Steak. Place the steak and onion in the air fryer basket on top of the potatoes. Cook for 4-6 more minutes, and then enjoy!
How Long Should the Steak Cook For?
The cook time for this recipe will vary depending on how done you like your steak to be. These are some rough guidelines that you may want to follow:
- If You Like Rare Steak: Cook the potatoes on 400°F for 10-12 minutes, then add the steak and onion and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
- To Get Medium-Rare Steak: Follow the instructions from the How-To section above, but lean closer to 4 rather than 6 minutes. (You should aim for an internal temperature of 130°F-135°F. We like to use an instant read meat thermometer to check.)
- For Medium Steak: Again, follow the instructions from the How-To section above, but cook the steak for 5-6 minutes. (You should aim for an internal temperature of 135°F-145°F.)
Tips for Success
By this point, you’re probably already an air fryer steak bites expert. That said, I’ve still got a few more tips to share with you:
- Keep the Steak and Potato Uniform in Size: Try and keep the potato cuts and steak cuts as close to the same size as possible to ensure even cooking.
- Chop Large Pieces of Onion: Keep the onion slices large. This will help them not overcook, and not fall through the tray while cooking.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: When the air fryer basket is already hot, the potatoes get nice and crispy.

How to Store and Reheat Leftovers
Easy to make, easy to store. Here’s how to save any leftover air fryer steak pieces for later:
- To Store: Once everything has cooled, store your steak and potato cubes in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
- To Reheat: I like to just pop leftovers in the microwave for 30-45 seconds, but you can also heat them on the stovetop in a pan until warmed through.

This was delicious! I also added baby carrots to the potatoes.
I needed to cook my potatoes a little longer but overall was an easy meal to prepare. Will definitely make it again.
This was easy to make and delicious! Next time, I will marinate my steak (sirloin was a little chewy) but the potatoes, onions and flavors were awesome! Less than an hour from start to finish! Thanks.
